August, 2011 - Regency Superior Auctions A
full page ad and a front page article in the Canadian Stamp News in
August made collectors aware that some very interesting Canadian stamps
were being offered for sale in the United States.
Regency Stamp had been appointed official auctioneer for the convention
of the American Philatelic Society (APS) in Columbus, Ohio. The auction
house offered nearly 3,300 lots for sale including two $1 million consignments.
The Canadian section included a number of rare Canadian stamps such
as this 12 Penny Black:

Lot 1708
Scott 3
Catalogue $100,000
Realized $39,600
|
Unfortunately, although
it was well centered and came with large borders, the above stamp had
a vertical crease along the frame line at right and a horizontal crease
in the bottom margin. These defects undoubtedly caused the price realized
to be somewhat modest.
