We
have never seen a year like 2006. The quality of the stamps, the
number of special collections and, oh yes, the prices, made it a
year to remember.
There
were more new record prices last year than any year we can remember.

It is interesting
to note that the catalogue value of the above 21 stamps adds up
to $220,525 while the prices realized totalled $685,328.
We find it significant for philately that collectors are willing
to spend high amounts for the best quality. There was a time when
collectors purchased large quantities of modern dollar stamps. sheets
and plate blocks that were commonly available. It could be decades
before those collectors come close to getting their money back.
But those who acquired the above rare stamps will likely do well
over time.It may be painful to spend this sort of money, but it
pays in the end.
